Lush Plains

The lush plains are vast stretches of densely growing foliage located just north of the terminator region. The landscapes of this environment are often quite flat, so the species inhabiting them must withstand strong, swirling winds which dominate the atmosphere around. All kinds of faunal life live in and around this growth. Some hide beneath the shallow canopy of surrounding plants, while others are large enough that they must forcefully push through the tangling foliage in order to navigate. This environment (like many on Isla) is plunged in a perpetual sunset, so species depending on the light must take on dark colorations in order order to absorb as much energy as possible. This means that the world beneath the floral growth is extremely dim, and many organisms have adapted by developing large eyes, and distinctive vocalizations.

Flora of the Lush Plains

The Lush plains are home to a wide array of flora belonging to many of Isla’s major clades. As a means of withstanding the winds swirling above the lush plains, many of the plants growing here sprout interlocking tendrils which anchor them together, and help to prevent uprooting. Tall plate-based flora compose the uppermost layer of the plains, however many other species can be found beneath. Photosynthetic organisms specializing in low light conditions grow below the top layer of foliage, soaking up any rays that making it to the terrestrial surface.
